Puppet leather. It is from Javanese performance art. It is so called Wayang. It has long time ago popular with its serial lakon or dramatic plots and there are many countries in the realm of wayang along with their king or queen respectively.

STORY OF WAYANG FROM JAVA ISLAND

WAYANG. Hearing this name is promptly one’s mind soaring far to the land of Java in Indonesia. Wayang is any of the distinguished item of Javanese culture. Then, there will be many query about it. How is it looked like? What is it really? Who is its playwright? How is it important to Javanese culture? And so on.

Wayang is created by the Saint of Islam i.e Wali Sanga. Sunan Kalijaga at that time tried to spread Islam to the Javanese people to all stratum of inhabitans in Java land. At last Sunan Kalijaga got an idea. He created an amusement for public namely wayang. He staged an audio visual performance nothing else but wayang to persuade people who has got their belief i.e. such as Hinduism, Budhism, Animism and Dinamism to revert willingly by his/her own heart without any force from outside.

Wayang is related to a show. It is performance art. It is a combination show off of art, painting, music, talent, story, a sense of humor, and an orchestra of javanese musical intrumen, i.e. gamelan. Well, infact It is a puppet show. The puppet is made of leather. There are any figures of Wayang. The left side usually bad character and on the right side are of the better character figures. Wayang can be staged all night.

Wayang is symbol of human in Javanese culture. It has many plays to show on the stage. Each plays of course has its own plot or Pakem of the wayang’s playwright. Some plays for example: Laire Gatotkaca – the birth of Gatotkaca, Gatotkaca gugur – martyrdom of Gatotkaca, Bima bungkus – the birh of Bima or Werkudara, Rama Tambak – Rama build dam in the sea. Wayang in daily life illustrate general people through varied manners that depicted upon the Wayang show all night.

In Wayang there are countries (of course it is name of fiction land in the sake of Wayang realm’s fiction) i.e.: Jodhipati, Madukara, Sokalima, Jangkarbumi, Ngalengka, Plangkawati, Cempalareja, Banjarjungut, Kendhalisada
